productivity.

I think that I was a little bit too productive today. I have a headache because I am so tired, but I'm on a roll with this being productive business, so I thought that I would go ahead and post this...

Today I went to Home Depot, bought some screws, and screwed the latter to the bunk bed. I have been sleeping on this top bunk since last August (oh snap! it's almost been a year!) and the ladder has always been shaky and not screwed in.

Several times I have actually been near death as I scrambled to turn my alarm off early in the morning. But no more. I have a solid foundation.

Ok, now it's time for me to climb up that sturdy ladder and get some z's.

Buenos Noches!

the coke bottle shelf of residency...

well hello.

i have decided to share with you the inner workings of our apartment (just one little snippet, don't get crazy...)

thanks to the most amazing brothers in Christ (Tom and Dan, and whoever else was behind the V-Day flower giving...) we now have a ritualistic mark of residency.

a glass coke bottle containing one yellow rose and one white rose.

Sarah, Bethany, Emily, Sandi and I received one on V-Day of this year, and now that Sandi has moved out, so has her coke bottle and flowers. to mark the occasion of Sarah Carlson moving in, Emily, Bethany, and I came home Friday night and found a ltittle present for Emily's returning home and glass coke bottle with one yellow rose and one white rose in it with a note tied around the neck of thebottle that read:
"Sarah Carleson
Happy Belated Valentine's Day!!!
-Dan"

there you have it.

they are all still in the bottles, all dried out (no water in them...so not THAT gross, geez) on a shelf in the living room. there they will stay...until we all move out i guess. i know i'm taking mine with me :)

sooner than later i will give you all a little tour of the ever changing landscape that is the apartment.

Ta Ta For Now

Pictures from the other night!

Friday night my friend Eva texted me and told me that she wanted to go on an adventure. We came up with two ideas...a moonlit hike or midnight bocci ball. We decided that bocci ball would be the most fun so we found a friend who had a set of balls and off we went.....but first, we had to get dressed up for the occasion

we felt so beautiful! Then we convinced Lor to join us in the madness and we were for  reals ready to go!

We got into a bit of mischief as we walked to the park. We took this picture in someone's driveway just as they were pulling in. :)

It's a good thing that I randomly grabbed a tape measure to clip to my belt. We had a couple of close calls.

(Mine was the yellow...and it was the closest).

The game continued and we had a lot of fun just enjoying life together. It was good to just be silly for a while. I think that God likes to watch his daughters being silly and laughing and not taking themselves so seriously.

Love,

Beth

On mission together

It's been a while since any of us have posted on here... Probably because we are so busy loving each other in real life that we don't have the desire to sit in front of a computer.

We are doing well as an apartment. Realizing that we are more than just roomates, that we are partners together on a mission, has united us tremendously. For instance, yesterday we had a community barbecue. We invited our neighbors, but only the highschoolers came. But hey, we still had fun and met some cool new kids. Anyways, through the planning, purchasing, cooking and cleaning, we grew a little closer.

But the barbecue is not the mission that we were on together. We are constantly on a mission to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to bear in our neighbors lives. It's the only thing that is worthy of our lives. And it is worthy. We are so excited to devote our lives to this!

In His grace,

Bethy

dancing with the Holy Spirit

Last night I was sitting on the top bunk getting ready to lay my head down for the night when from outside of my window I heard the click-click-click of high heels, a few familiar voices, and the giggles of my roomates. I thought to myself, I can either be diligent and go to bed now so that I can wake up early, or I can go outside and have some fun with my friends. It took me about two seconds to climb down the shaky ladder of my bunk bed and grab my snowmobile jacket from the hallway closet on the way out the door.

We danced for a while in our neighbor’s parking space, listening to the music flowing out of Lor’s tape playing Volvo (yes friends, she is cool enough to still have a tape player in her vechile). But soon enough the security guard informed us that we were not allowed to be doing that, so we headed over to the Von’s parking lot (I never thought I would be one of those people who hangs out in a parking lot on Friday night!).

Now that we had space to move, we could dance our little hearts out, and this is where my story begins. Prior to last night the only waltzing experience that I had was the dances at camp (and let’s just say that dancing with high-school boys is not the best way to learn a formal dance); so one of my brothers, who is an expert student of dance showed me the proper way.

He informed me that the man is the one who does the dance, the girl just follows. He said that I am supposed to lean back against his arm, and hold his hand firmly. I tried so hard to follow his foot pattern, but I kept getting ahead of him or swaying a little bit too far to the sides. He said, “Bethany, just follow, let me do the work.” My response was a disheartened, “How do you follow?”

He replied, “Close your eyes and listen to my body” (That sounds kinda sketch, but, it will be so cool that he said that once you make the connection). I closed my eyes and he led me around the Von’s parking lot. All I had to do was be aware of where he was going and the steps that he was taking, and I would automatically go the right way- even with my eyes closed. I didn’t even have to try- I just had to stay on my feet and be willing to move.

I am pretty sure that walking in step with the Holy Spirit is the same thing. Just close your eyes*, feel where He is leading, and let Him do the work. As long as I am willing to dance, it will become something beautiful. (By the way, in dancing, you are going to take a few wrong steps. You may even fall, but He is there to pull you up by the hand, brush the dirt off of you, and lead you in a dance once again).

I just like the thought that all I have to do is lean back God’s arms, hold tight to his hand, and follow His lead.

*Closed eyes-2 Corinthians 5:7 “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” Sometimes sight gets in the way and we think that we have it all figured out because we can see what is going on, but in reality, we have to just trust the Holy Spirit and be confident that He will lead us in the most beautiful dance ever.

so this is the new year...

well well well.
i am back from the dead. kinda.

Hello new year, goodbye EBC.
Hello moorpark college, goodbye Wayne Grudem (i WILL NOT miss miss him at all).

so here's to another year. another year of homework, classwork, real work, no work, too much work, not enough work, and no money all around.

at least the company is good. the girls are all so amazing. emily is back to staying up late doing homewrok, bethany is back to not making it to the bed before falling asleep doing homework, sandi is back to re-arranging furniture, and sarah is back to work full time and ENGAGED. that's right, finally happened. YAY SARAH!

oh, and here's to a year of fresh beginnings. going back to the old school, literally and figuratively i guess. i am back at moorpark college, but i am back with some old friends i have missed dearly. April, Willie, Immanuel, and Beau. the old crew is something i have missed so much and craved for so long. it feels good to be around my own kind again. haha. i love the EBCers to death, but i can't be bubbled up. i think his whole stepping out of the bubble i placed in thing is gonna be awesome. so far so good!

already swamped with homework, not as stressful as last semester though by a long shot. just motivation to do it...

i am way stoked on the coming semester and year. i am so excited to see what is coming and i have already had so many memorable days and nights in these last few weeks that i am so pumped for the weeks and months to follow.

welp, back to philosophical thoughts on morality and Christopher Columbus' real motivations for setting sail in 1492.

hasta.
